Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in popular media. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities who have been excluded. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. In 2009, the ebullient young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her determination to be a media critic and feminist. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She is also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
